what to wear when…a poison arrow frog. her throat quivers, buzzing out a whiny croak. though only an inch long, she is flamboyant and unmissable. neon and blotchy, she hops. her splayed, bulge-ended toes grip bromeliads. tadpoles glisten, sticking to the slippery beads of mucus on her back. the humid forest hums around her, the scent of soil curling in the hot, moist air. her thin, slick skin sheathes her alkaloid poison inside. there is a violence in her vibrant hue, toxic and mocking.
